Summer walk in the Lethbridge River Valley but this time I took my camera with me. I walk through the valley several times a week on my morning exercise walks. BUT my rule is to not take my camera when I am getting exercise.
I missed my morning walk as I had other things to do so I thought an afternoon walk would be a good thing. It was 31C and I really wanted to get out for a walk but I did not want to rush. So my solution was to grab a camera from the office and take my time on a walk in the river valley.
As it was a Friday the lab was not officially open so sneaking away for an hour or so was not a problem.
VERY HOT walk in the Lethbridge River Valley
Now one thing that I did not think of when I started the walk was that the river valley tends to get even hotter then what the temperature says. The sun reflects off the coulees and on top of that the wind does not reach the valley floor.
This day the river valley was an oven!!
I was rethinking if it was wise to walk when my attention was grabbed by so many photo opportunities. But as I went from one photo subject to another I covered my usual walking route in the extreme heat. Plus I had a BLAST doing it.
The worst time of the day to shoot is mid-afternoon soI was not expecting a lot but BOY WAS I WRONG!!
The first place that got my attention was the old mine information display. The play of color of the building and the trees against the coulee fascinated me.
Just past the mine and walking through the river valley you come across the bridge. I was not here for pictures of the bridge I had to take a couple shots.
As I walked under the bridge then along the base of the bridge I could not help to see all the fruits and seeds that were maturing in the hot summer sun.
A great time!!
I was really enjoying myself. I had just found a new photo subject of some seeds when my cell phone rang. Seems there was a customer that needed to drop off some digital files for printing so I was going to have to cut the walk short. BUT not before I would take one more picture. Of all the pictures of the day it is my favourite. With the unbelievable heat and dryness these seeds seem to be a complete contrast to the day.
Well I have to say that it was a great way to spend part of an afternoon. Even with the heat and the wrong time of day it worked out GREAT!!
